Sorry, you didn't explain the knot at the start so this tutorial isn't really any use to a complete beginner like me. I researched several times but couldn't understand and you didn't name the loop for me to look it up

The instructions for this gadget tell you to use a length of 30, 35 or 40 yards, not the 2 or 3 yards shown in this demonstration. Such a long length of yarn tangles each time you try to draw it through the holes, making it totally impractical. It's also hard on your arms as you are drawing armslength after armslength of warp. There is a note in the instructions that you can cut the warp into thirds if you are finding the length "cumbersome", but that still isn't very practical. 10 yards will still tangle pretty good. You need to cut the yarn into manageable lengths - I'd say 5 yards or less ... exactly as shown in this video in fact.

The sound is a big issue, really hard to hear you and some sort of background noise was constant and a little distracting. You might want to look at your work before you put it out there.

As I don't want to make 2 samples I go sideways to the next hole the same end so I only have thread on one side saving a lot of thread. (Yes, I do know that's not why you warp the back too but I'm always paranoid that I'll not have enough yarn for the main project) I then hemstitch after a few rows as I would on my loom, and the same at the end before cutting the loops to release it. There is still a long enough fringe both ends for everything to be secure. I have made a shed stick in scale and this makes it quicker to weave as I only have to manually select on one row. It is a good size for a swatch, big enough to test sett and feel (be sure to wet finish the fabric in the same way as you will off the loom) so you are comparing like for like. And the finished samples are an attractive record for my notes. It is actually a 6 in 1 Swatch maker as by using alternate holes you also have 4, 5 and 6 epi - 5 being a direct comparison to a rigid heddle loom heddle. If the thicker yarns are too thick to pass through the holes, sew along from hole to home and string the warp under the stitches instead. An excellent addition to my weaving kit, a bit pricey as I'm in the UK so I guess the retailer had to pay import duty etc, but it is so aesthetically pleasing that it is a pleasure to use quite apart from how useful I find it.
